Words...

What's in a word? What does it mean? Where did it come from? Why do we say that? Big words, little words and all the words in between--enquiring minds want to know! I've always loved words. Why say "common" when you could say "mundane"; why say "sleight of hand" when you could say "legerdemain"? As scrapbookers words come in handy, not only for word art but for our journaling as well. I believe that journaling is an important factor in your scrapbooks. This doesn't mean that every layout should be peppered with flowery speech, on the contrary, in some layouts the photos tell the story. When putting together a scrapbook, keep in mind that someday, be it your children, your children's children or beyond, someone is going to be looking at your scrapbooks who isn't privy to all the information that you have in your head about each page. Do you do heritage pages? How frustrating is it to have an excellent photo from the late 1800's, a picture of someone you know is related to you is some way shape or form, but no one ever had the foresite to label the photo so you would know that this is a photo of Aunt Tilly on her graduation day, age 17? These little tidbits of information can be easily added to your scrapbookpages in very unobtrusive ways that won't effect your overall design. Use a small font and wrap the information around the bottom corner or the photo--Tilly Bagsworth, 17: Graduation Day. If you know the dates on the photos so much the better. Remember that the photos you take today will someday be someone else's heritage photos!
