The Mysterious Life of a Designer....

Have you ever wondered about the wonderful and mysterious life of a digi-scrap designer? Well here's a little bit about me!

I've been married to my DH, Brian, since 1992 which was the summer we graduated from college, got married and moved to Colorado! Brian is a newly emerging runner - he's been running for about 2 yrs now and will attempt his first marathon this summer.

We have 2 little girls, Sandis who is 6 and Stella who is 4. We homeschool them but Sandis does attend a homeschool program for 5 hrs a week. They both have just started soccer and have in the past done cheerleading and swimming.

As for me, a couple weird facts: I have a master's in entomology and I used to play ice hockey for fun. Now I run a part-time home daycare along with my store at Digitals. In my alleged spare time, I like to read, knit, sew or actual create some scrap LOs!

You know that I am a designer who specializes in services, but did you know I do other things too?

I am the hostess for the Picture This Challenge each month at Digitals. Each month I post a different and fun theme. You scrap the pictures in that theme (using some products from our amazing Digitals designers), post your LO in the gallery and receive a bonus!

I also hostess the Multi-Photo Layouts Crop at Digitals. Two Mondays a month at 9pm eastern time, I hostess a chat where we talk about multi-photo layouts and there are some fun bonuses for attendees. I also post a challenge. LAST DAY with DeDe...

So today is my last day of hosting the blog this week! And yes, I totally missed blogging yesterday...life is too crazy right now. Anyways, I'm sorry that I haven't been a very good blogger this week. I usually do better and find interesting things to say but not this week. I'm barely keeping it together. My daughter had to have dental surgery this morning and she is doing great, but feeling a little clingy, so I have decided to give myself the weekend off and spend time with my family and friends. Maybe I can get rejuvenated enough to be able to get cracking on some new kits!

But thanks for being with me this week and for all the support and friendship you have given me. I hope you will keep coming back to Digitals! Remember to join me on Wednesdays at 9pm EST for my crops and remember NSD 2008 is coming up and we have lots in store for you!

Halfway...

So we are halfway through this week. Personally I will be so glad when next week comes!

I had a great crop tonight. I just love meeting with the members of Digitals at my crops. I really love how the crop has grown..so many FRIENDS that I have met and shared with! We focused on our FEATURED DESIGNER, Katey Green tonight and even though she wasn't able to be there she gave a great interview that I really felt like I got to know her! Check it out HERE. I'm so glad that I get to be the CROP QUEEN here at Digitals and get to crop every week!

Thanks again for your comments and LOVE that you have left me! LOVE IT! Sharon asked me how I organize my kits that I buy from other designers. I actually don't end up buying kits too much anymore...but I kind of have my own system. I always have a folder with the Designer Name and then folders for each of the kits that I have of that designer inside it. I pretty much use that same kind of system with my own kits. So if I have my Spring Will Come Kit. I will have a folder called DeDe Smith and then inside of that folder I will have a folder with Spring Will Come in it. Eventually I am hoping that ACDSee will be available for the Mac so I can REALLY get organized, but in the meantime this works for me. Of course I never have a chance to actually scrap anymore...I'm always designing...so when I do finally get around to scrapping, I will probably NEVER find what I am looking for! LOL

Late AGAIN!

Sorry everyone. Once again I am late on posting. I have just not even been in my house all day, so here it is about 1am (my time) and I am finally posting...but at least I finally remembered. LOL

So I am excited about this weekend. I get to go on a girls night out again to a cabin with some ladies from my church. I'm very excited. I went in February and was just so fun and relaxing to be away from the kids for a little while. I hope everything works out so I can go. My daughter has to get her teeth fixed early on Friday morning so I hope she is okay enough for me to leave. Of course her daddy will be with her so hopefully everything will go okay. Her back teeth all grew in without enamel so if we don't get caps on her teeth then she will be prone to many cavities and infections. But since she is so young we have to take her to the hospital and put her out (anesthesia).

A lot else going on this week too. I have 3 kits to finish before Friday for my design obligations. Yikes! I just finished one of them so basically I have 2 days to finish 2 kits.....not sure how that's going to work, but we will see how it goes. I also have to speak in my Church on Sunday. I HATE public speaking so I am very scared and I haven't had time to prepare my lesson yet. I am just praying that I can get this all done. I will feel so much better next week when all of this is behind me!

So I haven't been getting many comments this week! I hope that just means you are lurking (I am a good lurker) and not that we aren't getting people visiting the blog! Just another Maniac Monday

How come every Monday seems to be so hectic! I had a huge to-do list and here it is 5:00pm...I've been running around like crazy and STILL haven't even got a bit of my list done. Oh Well, you can only do so much right? I just feel so incredibly behind on everything and I hate that. Looks like an all-nighter is in store for me in order to get back on top of things.

Today I wanted to share an amazing layout done by one of my CT members, Rona. I just love seeing my kits being used and I love how she altered one of my bearz from ASPIRATIONS - RESOLUTION BEARZ. Happy Easter!

I hope everyone's Easter was wonderful! I am so sorry that I am just getting around to writing today...a very full day! I had Choir Practice, Church, and I also had my brother, his fiancee, and his friend over for dinner. I made Au Gratin Potatoes and Meatloaf and it turned out good. I also sent my son and daughter on a small Easter Egg Hunt in my house today. So it was a good day. Most importantly we even got my son to understand that today was really about JESUS and it is always good to feel that you have taught your kids something :)

I DID get a question in yesterday's comments! Thank you Tabby! Please everyone submit your questions so I will have something to write about for tomorrow! :)


HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DIGITALS?

I have been at Digitals for just over a year, since February 2007 and I love it here. Stacey and Rick are amazing people to work with and I love all the designers and members here. I am so grateful for everyone's support!

Hello everyone!

I am your designer hostess on the blog this week! I'm excited about this opportunity and I hope you will all participate with me. What I want for this week is for you ALL to get to know me and my products. I'm an open book! So what I really would like to ask of you is to comment in each of my daily posts with a questions/ideas/suggestions/anything that you want to know about me and my products and then the following day I will answer your questions! Anyways, I'm DeDe Smith (Designs by DeDe) and I have been married to my hubby for almost 9 years. We have two children, JJ (6) and Beth (almost 3). We live in Orem, Utah. I love to design, read, and watch movies! I hate cleaning but I love to have my home clean and organized (go figure).

HIPPITY HOPPITY



So I'm posting a little early today...It's almost 4am here in Utah and I haven't been to bed yet. The middle of the night is when I get my best designing done because my kids are asleep....of course that means I have to live without sleep too....but I love designing so you do what you have to do :) Later tomorrow (today?) I am meeting my parents and we are going to have dinner and visit while my hubby takes my brothers to the Utah Jazz game. It should be nice to just be with my parents for awhile. My kids are coming with me and they love spending time with the grandparents. They live 5 hours away in my little hometown of Orderville, Utah and we don't see them too much, but they came through here to go to my cousin's wedding in Idaho and tomorrow they will be stopping in before returning home on Sunday.

Anyways, I'm pretty tired so I think I'm going to go and try and get some rest. But I do have some freebies for you this week. My AMAZING CT Members have helped me out this week by creating some quickpages made from my kits and I will be sharing them with you each day this week! Sometimes when I 'm designing one of my collections I end up with odds and ends that don't really go with the kit I'm working on. I put them aside with the thought that I will get back to them at a future date. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't! Often, when I need a freebie to give away, I'll dip into to this little bag of tricks to see what's available. I may have to recolor something, or I may have to tweak a little something here or there, but I can usually come up with a nice, cohesive freebie in a short period of time. This particular mini-kit was created in just that fashion for the Gettin' To Know Scrappin' chat that I co-host with Karla Kellum of Lifesong Kreations every other week.
